This Sunday in Carcassonne

This would be a great event to attend. Too bad we didn't know about it earlier :)

Google Translation of  https://carcassonne.org/manifestations/concert-gongs-et-orgue

CONCERT GONGS AND ORGAN - Basilique Saint-Nazaire, City of Carcassonne
These three musicians from the Bordeaux region have been offering a totally new concert for several years now. It is a dialogue between musical instruments serving the sacred in their respective cultures, Western and Eastern, church organ and Chinese gongs. The organ plays chorales harmonized by Johann Sebastian Bach, famous German composer of the XVIIIth century. To these chorales a set of twelve gongs responds in an improvised comment in an original use, smooth, very different from what we usually hear for a percussion instrument. It is an unprecedented sound experience, both meditative and sensitive, an invitation to let yourself be carried on an inner journey.

This training, resulting from improvised music workshops since 2006, occurs in small country churches in the South-West as well as in cathedrals such as Puy-en-Velay, Angoulême, Bazas, Montauban and Lourdes, Nevers, Pezenas ...

The entry is free participation.

Graduation idea - Family barge charter

Family Barge Charters

Do you have children who are interested in European history or maybe are studying French?

Here's a great graduation idea... a family barge charter!

French Hotel Barge Anjodi - Canal du Midi, France

With hectic lifestyles becoming the norm these days, a vacation where several generations of the same family, perhaps for a birthday or graduation celebration, can grab that rare opportunity to all be together is becoming more and more desirable.

Hotel barge charters are a wonderful way for families to spend special time together. There is something on offer for family members of all ages. A doting crew to care for you, delicious food prepared by your very own on-board chef, your own minibus to take you where you want to go, and stopping in a different locations every day without having to pack and unpack. It’s like having your own private floating villa!

3-minute video highlighting the fun of a family barging cruise

Most of our hotel barges offer family charter cruises with great activities for the children, but also plenty of time for the adults to relax, especially if they’re sipping a chilled glass of Chablis in the on-deck spa pool as they cruise gently along a meandering canal on the waterways of Europe.

A private barge charter's itinerary can be tailored to fit your personal interests. Many of our barges have sample itineraries for family cruises. Take a look at their online brochure under "Itineraries".

The voyage itself is already great fun. Grandchildren may find themselves steering their 126 foot vessel along a tree-lined canal, perhaps joining their cousins in the barge jacuzzi or biking together, as their parents relax alongside on the sundeck just a few feet away.

Having your own chef makes evening meals both enjoyable and flexible on a family charter. Dinner can be enjoyed as a family, with perhaps a casual barbecue during the week for children to enjoy some alfresco dining. Or a high tea can be served for younger children with the normal recipes they enjoy. Alternatively, a combination where elder children join the adults for dinner and then a break between courses for an evening stroll before bedtime. Adults can then relax in peace and quiet with coffee and liqueurs.

Ashore, as well as our traditional cultural visits, we can arrange horse riding, water sports, tennis and many other activities to keep the younger ones and young at heart, completely satisfied. As with all our charter itineraries your experience is fully customisable to suite the ages and needs of your group. Child equipment such high-chairs, car seats, child bike seats, travel cots, children’s bicycles and more are available on request at no extra cost.

An Anniversary to Remember Aboard a Hotel Barge

An anniversary – perhaps a wedding milestone, a special birthday or a memorable date with personal significance – is the perfect opportunity to gather together your nearest and dearest to celebrate. If you’re looking for a unique way to commemorate this special event with your loved ones, chartering a hotel barge on one of the peaceful inland waterways of Europe could be the perfect solution.

Lunch aboard French Hotel Barge Emma on the canal du midi

All our hotel barges are available for private charter and many for individual cabin bookings on a shared cruise. Barges come in different sizes and, depending on the one you choose, can accommodate a maximum of six to 20 passengers. With a highly-trained and doting onboard crew – including captain, gourmet chef, hostesses and tour guide – at your disposal, embarking on a chartered cruise allows you the intimacy of your own private vessel along with the expert knowledge and assistance you would expect from a luxury hotel.

WINE APPRECIATION CRUISES

One of our themed cruises would provide a memorable backdrop for an anniversary get-together, such as a wine appreciation cruise.

Oenophiles love the plethora of wine tours that we offer throughout France and Italy. In Burgundy or Bordeaux, Loire Valley or Languedoc-Roussillon, carefully-crafted wine cruises offer you the opportunity to visit some wonderful, long-established wineries and vineyards, as well as explore the cultural and historical delights of each wine-growing region you cruise through.

And, of course, there will be plenty of tasting opportunities both on and off the vessel – a perfect way to toast that special occasion!

So, if you’re looking for a special way to celebrate a special anniversary with family or friends, a hotel barge cruise on one of Europe’s beautiful inland waterways is a wonderful way to create memories that will last a lifetime.

A hotel barge cruise is perfect for a family vacation

With hectic lifestyles becoming the norm these days, a vacation where several generations of the same family, perhaps for a birthday or graduation celebration, can grab that rare opportunity to all be together is becoming more and more desirable.

French Hotel Barge Anjodi - Canal du Midi, France

Hotel barge charters are a wonderful way for families to spend special time together. There is something on offer for family members of all ages. A private barge charter's itinerary can be tailored to fit your personal interests. Many of our barges have sample itineraries for family cruises. Take a look at their online brochure under "Itineraries".

A FEW EXAMPLES . . .

CANAL DU MIDI - ANJODI

For example, during a cruise on the French Hotel Barge Anjodi along the Canal du Midi, there are visits to the underground Limoussis Caves, the Meze Dinosaur Park, and medieval fortified Carcassonne where the youngsters can pretend to be gallant knights, while the grown-ups can enjoy wine tastings at local vineyards and explore the wonderful food market in Narbonne. Rick Stein certainly enjoyed it when we was on board Anjodi filming his French Odyssey TV series some years ago.

BURGUNDY - L'ART DE VIVRE

Another great destination for a family cruise is the Canal du Nivernais in Burgundy, home to the French Hotel Barge L’Art de Vivre. Activities for the younger members can include tree-climbing and kayaking at local adventure parks and visiting the Parc L’Auxois zoo, while other folks in the family can indulge in a private wine tasting in Chablis and a tour of the Renaissance Château d’Ancy le Franc.

LOIRE VALLEY - NYMPHEA

When considering taking children on a boating holiday in France, a river cruise in the Loire Valley aboard the French Hotel Barge Nymphea, is an amazing way to explore the many attractions this region has to offer There’s nothing like seeing the world through the eyes of children. Learning how locks operate, visiting castles, an aquarium and a zoo, makes this not only fun for children and adults but it’s an education in itself.

IRELAND - SHANNON PRINCESS

The Irish Hotel Barge Shannon Princess offers a Family Adventure charter which is a perfect casual cruise choice for families. Cruise through an area of spectacular unspoiled landscape, atmospheric ancient settlements and ruins with your friendly, professional crew. Each day can be changed and arranged to your immediate requirements. Activities may include: Walking, Zorbing, Zip Lining, Canoeing, Waterskiing, Trekking, Fishing, Cycling, Horse Riding, Water Sports, Traditional Music, Pottery & Crafts, Go-cart Racing, etc. This charming owner-operated barge has excellent modern facilities including Wii & PS3 on board (with games for all age groups) as well as DVDs and satellite TV. There's also interesting history, antiquity, folklore & music.

SCOTLAND - SCOTTISH HIGHLANDER

The family cruise holiday aboard Scottish Hotel Barge Scottish Highlander makes frequent stops on its itinerary that offer plenty of activities that are popular with children. On a typical trip, a child will have the chance to go bowling, try out some fishing, explore castles, go-karting, have a picnic, go swimming, and even join the chef in preparing a barbecue. A ride on the steam train that was used in the Harry Potter films is suitable for anyone of any age with an interest in steam locomotives, Harry Potter, or both. Remember to keep a lookout for Nessie!

Captain & The Kid --- Kids in Jacuzzi

The voyage itself is already great fun. Grandchildren may find themselves steering their 126 foot vessel along a tree-lined canal, perhaps joining their cousins in the barge jacuzzi or biking together, as their parents relax alongside on the sundeck just a few feet away.

Having your own chef makes evening meals both enjoyable and flexible on a family charter. Meze Dinosaur Park --- Parc L’Auxois

Ashore, as well as our traditional cultural visits, we can arrange horse riding, water sports, tennis and many other activities to keep the younger ones and young at heart, completely satisfied. French Hotel Barge Nymphea: Loire Barging Cruises

We are pleased to announce that the French Hotel Barge Nymphea will be resuming barging cruises on the River Cher in the Loire Valley France for 2014.

French Hotel Barge Nymphea - Cruising the Loire Valley - Barging in France

Last year Nymphea had to suspend operations due to the need for emergency repairs to be carried out on lock weirs/barrages on the River Cher... but she's BACK!

It is possible to book Nymphea by the cabin and share the barge with other like-minded passengers or you may choose to have a private charter for up to 6 people. For private charters you have the option of the standard Loire cruise or several themed itineraries: cycling/bike tour, golf, family, romantic getaway for two/honeymoon cruise.

French Hotel Barge Nymphea River Cher Loire Valley barging cruises
The Valley of the Kings is as rich in history and legend as it is in beauty, and over the centuries little has changed. The River Loire and its main tributary the River Cher have transported passengers and cargo for more than 2000 years.

The proximity of such a wealth of gorgeous Renaissance architecture makes a cruise along this waterway a unique travel experience.

There is much to discover in the Loire Valley, from the fabulous châteaux to the centuries-old villages dotted along the river. Wind your way through the narrow streets perhaps discovering hidden shops with hand-painted pottery or stumble across an open market. Visit a winemaker and taste their range of Touraine wines or meet a cheese producer and learn why his goat cheese is the most famous in France.

Barging in France - Cruising the River Cher in the Loire Valley aboard the Barge Nymphea

Nymphea has three comfortable cabins, two twin staterooms and one twin or double stateroom, all with air conditioning and en-suite facilities. Six bikes are always available for you to enjoy rides along towpaths and trails. Her crew of Captain and Chef/Housekeeper are most knowledgeable about the history in this beautiful area and are excellent hosts for your luxury cruise

Looking forward to your inquries
