Ireland 2019: Try a walking holiday - Barge Shannon Princess

News from Irish Hotel Barge Shannon Princess

Try A Guided Walking Cruise

For avid walkers, the Irish countryside provides a truly wonderful experience for a walking holiday. Imagine the sensation of fresh air gently awakening your senses as your eyes feast onto undisturbed flora and fauna.  The smells that greet you will be a heady mix of wild flowers from Angelica to Willowherb and the sights will be of wide open greenery speckled with an array of colours. A variety of birds provide the music to accompany your stroll.  In the backdrop there are green fields, some filled with farm animals happily munching on grass; the distant farm houses providing a picture perfect postcard of idyllic country living. Just watch out for the odd cow pat dotted around!

Hike in the Mountains

If hill walking is more your thing, the Slieve Bloom mountains are well worth a visit. Situated among the flat plains of the Irish midlands, they strike a beautiful pose, rising to a maximum height of 527 metres and are visible in many of the surrounding counties. The extensive growth of lavender gives a lovely purple hue to the mountainside when they appear in the distance.

Walk The Pilgrim Path

The Pilgrim Path is an ancient walking route of spiritual significance where you can appreciate Ireland’s medieval Christian heritage. "An tSlí Mór," translated as "the Great Road," crosses early historic Ireland from east to west where the modern Pilgrim Path winds along the Esker Riada. Stroll along and experience these mystical trails where the Pilgrims once ventured in Old Medieval Ireland. Take in the stunning views of green meadows and bogland countryside, miles away from the busy city.

Relax on the Barge

The Shannon Princess is a luxurious barge that offers a vacation with a difference: a six night, seven day all-inclusive cruise along the Shannon with the opportunity to take part in various activities throughout the journey. Our guided walking tours will appeal to those interested in the outdoors and the surrounding landscape; a truly intimate experience. Afterwards why not relax and enjoy a soak in our hot tub in the top deck of the barge with a glass of champagne. Then sit back and feast into our finest and freshest gourmet food gathered locally from farm shops and country markets along the Shannon.

With a variety of locations visited during the cruise, there will be something for everyone making it a truly unforgettable vacation.
